Split to Dubrovnik cruise: every through-service is a commercial line

No state line connects Split with Dubrovnik. Every through-service in the 2026 register is a commercial catamaran with no public service obligation, run to summer demand. That is the single most useful fact about a one-way route down this coast.

What actually goes south

The register splits the coast into regions, and Split and Dubrovnik sit in different ones. The state network is built to connect islands to their own mainland town, not to run the length of Dalmatia, so nothing with a public service obligation carries you from one city to the other in a day.

What does is commercial: 17 of the 68 routes in the register are commercial lines, and the through-boats are among them. They are fast, they are direct, and they exist because summer demand exists.

Every row is foot passengers only. There is no vehicle option on any of them, which is worth knowing before a hire car enters the plan — only 24 of the 68 routes in the register carry a vehicle at all, and none of those runs this corridor end to end.

The route, leg by leg

A cruise version of this journey stops in the same places a self-assembled version would, and the difference between them shows up leg by leg rather than in the total.

Split — the start
Ten state lines leave here plus the commercial catamarans. Line 9604 goes to Hvar for €10.00 in season, €6.40 off-season, one rotation a day
Hvar
Sixteen services connect Split with Hvar island; thirteen reach Hvar town and only one of the two that carry a vehicle docks there
Korčula
The through-catamarans call at Korčula town. The state alternative is line 634 from Orebić: 20 minutes, 22 crossings a day between 3 July and 30 August, berthing at Dominče about 3 km from the town
Mljet
Polače is on state line 9807 only inside the eight-week window; Sobra is served all year, €5.40 from Dubrovnik off-season
Dubrovnik
Line 807 works the Elafiti from here four times a day Monday to Saturday, twice on Sundays and holidays

Read that as a risk list rather than an itinerary. Hvar and Korčula are well served from their own mainland ports in any month. The joins between them — the parts that make it one journey rather than four — are the commercial legs, and those are the ones that do not exist in April.

Set it to winter and the through-services vanish, leaving island-to-mainland legs and a bus. That is the case for buying the journey as one product rather than four tickets — and it is a seasonal case, not a permanent one. In July and August the same route is available piece by piece, as the ferry version of this journey sets out in full.

If the point of the trip is the towns rather than the water, the overland options are quicker and run all year; the comparison page covers them. If the point is the islands, the sea route only earns its place between roughly June and September.

What to decide before you book

  • Establish which legs are commercial. 17 of 68 routes carry no public service obligation, and every through-boat is one.
  • Decide the direction deliberately. Southbound ends at the smaller airport: Dubrovnik handled 49,275 passengers in November 2025.
  • Leave the car out of it. Only 24 of 68 routes take a vehicle, and no through-service does.
  • Check the month against the southern chain. Line 9807 reaches Korčula only between 3 July and 30 August.

Give us the week and the direction, and we will tell you if it joins up

This is the one Croatian route where the convenient version is made entirely of lines with no obligation to run. We check the 2026 register and the per-line timetables against your dates and tell you which legs exist before anything is booked.
